It's an exciting time for Holiday World! Their steel winged coaster, Thunderbird, just began testing. This coaster is Holiday World's first steel roller coaster, and it's built by Bolliger & Mabillard, who are world renowned for building smooth and exhilarating rides. It looks like Thunderbird could be one of their best creations yet, from the looks of the test videos, and should be a solid attraction for Holiday world's line up of rides. Just a few more weeks, and we'll be riding it!
Here's a view of the launch track. The white plates are actually the magnets that will accelerate thunderbird to its top speed. As you can see, there are some metal fins that interact with the magnetic plates located on the train, right between the yellow wheels. This magnetic launch should be smooth, thrilling, and fun! Above is a video of Thunderbird launching, showing some point-of-view footage as well as an off-ride shot of Thunderbird's launch. It looks like it goes pretty fast through course. Thunderbird should be really fun, and I'm sure it's going to be one of the best winged coasters to date. Video credit: Holiday World
Thunderbird is currently scheduled to open on April 25. It won't be too much longer!
Coasters are my passion. It's what I do, it's who I am.
