Goliath at Six Flags Great America had its media day today (6-18-14). I was very excited to have the opportunity to ride this triple record-breaking wooden coaster after all of the hype over this coaster, and countless hours spent looking at the construction site to see what was going on. Goliath did not disappoint. It was worth the early wake up time at 2:45 am to get a chance to finally ride this coaster after the long wait. On with the report!
The turn before the lift. The dispatches were relatively slow for this coaster (at one point about twenty five minutes!), but the crew had to deal with the media cameras, and that took up some time, as the news stations would wait for a live slot to show their reporters riding Goliath. I don't mean to complain, though. It is called "Media Day" for a reason - the media gets to ride.
Above is the full video of the opening ceremony. I thought the ceremony was well put together, and I did not expect the gladiators to come in to "conquer" Goliath! It is a bit corny, but if the park wants to go for it, good for them!
All in all, Goliath was great! It was very smooth, and featured some wicked inversions and elements. Since I only got two rides on Goliath, I will hold off on my review this Friday, so I can get a better judgment of this wooden monster. Instead, you can look forward to my full review of Goliath Coming two Mondays from now (6-30-14). I would like to thank Rocky Mountain construction and Six Flags for making this day possible - I had so much fun!
Coasters are my passion. It's what I do, it's who I am.
