While I was at Six Flags Great America for opening weekend, I took a few photos of the construction of Goliath, which is looking very good. Here is my second update for the year from Goliath (my first was all the way back in January). The main focus from the construction crew was on the lift, as it is the main element that still needs to be constructed.
If you look closely on the track, there are gaps without the orange topper track. If my theory is right, the crew left a gap so that the track can be filled with a non-shrinking substance that will add strength to the track. Once the track is filled with the substance, the remaining pieces of topper track will be bolted on.
There is still lots of work to be done for Goliath, such as finishing the lift, finishing the brake run, filling the track with grout, finishing placing topper track, working on the plaza, and testing the ride. The scheduled opening is the 31st of May, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was delayed by a week or two.
Coasters are my passion. It's what I do, it's who I am.
