A very important weekend is in the books for Carowinds. They just unveiled Fury 325, the tallest and fastest Giga coaster. Fury 325 has only been officially open for two days, but the hype over this ride is building. The positive reviews keep coming in. The main features on the ride are the airtime and the speed, and according to most of the riders, the coaster delivers in those sections. Fury 325 seems like it is a solid addition to Carowinds, and it could be the best Giga coaster out there!
From all of the reviews I've been hearing, it sounds as Fury is a definite hit at the park. While it may not be extremely intense, I've heard it is a very fun coaster that has some defined semi-ejector airtime - more than the builder of Fury (Bolliger & Mabillard) has ever delivered before. It sounds like a coaster that I would really enjoy, and I will be lucky enough to visit Carowinds in the summer to ride Fury and see what it's all about.
Below are some videos to get you excited about Fury 325!
Here's the official point of view video released by the park. It looks like Fury has some serious speed, but in the back half it slows down a bit. Don't be fooled! The elements in the second half of the ride are actually so large that it just appears that the coaster is slowing, but it's really not. Check out the Carowinds Fury 325 webcam to see the speed of the ride from an off-ride glimpse. There's also a second webcam here. The coaster really warms up in the afternoon once it has been running for a while, so check out the webcams in the afternoon hours of the park's operation to see the real speed this giant can muster.
Above is the reverse point of view showing the riders' reaction as they brave Fury. Just watch the reaction of the guy in the blue shirt . . . priceless. Also, you can get a feel for how much airtime this coaster has by looking at riders as they slam up into the lap bar when the train sails through one of the airtime hills - looks promising!
Overall, based on all of the videos and reviews that have come in, Fury seems to really be a phenomenal ride. I really cannot wait until I get to ride Fury 325 in the summer - it's going to be fun. Looks like 2015 will be a great year for Carowinds!
Coasters are my passion. It's what I do, it's who I am.
