Cedar Point, located off the shore of Lake Erie is the thrill seeker's destination. Cedar Point is dubbed as the coaster capital of the world, and there are sixteen roller coasters there to thrill riders. The day I went was a bit busy, but I still had fun and rode some of Cedar Point's best coasters.
This coaster very well may be the reason I wanted to come to Cedar Point this year. I'll start by explaining that a few years ago, (2011), I visited the park for their Halloween themed weekends (Halloweekends), and I loved Millennium Force. It was running very fast that year, and was just so fun that I had to clock it in at spot three in my top ten list. Because of the great experience in 2011, I came back in 2012, but the ride just didn't feel the same. It just wasn't the same Millennium Force as it was in 2011. It was running sluggish, and was no competition for a top three coaster. This year, I have been hearing reports that Milllenium was running very well, so I had to check it out. That then brings us to today, where I get to see if it is a top ten coaster after all these years.
Moving on over to Maverick, which is one of the shortest steel coasters at Cedar Point, but it makes up for its compact layout with intensity. I was really looking forward to this one, since the last time I rode it was a few years back, and I haven't been able to ride it ever since (either absurdly long lines for Maverick or breakdowns kept me away from riding), so I was not going to leave the Point without riding Maverick.
All in all, Top Thrill Dragster is a great ride, but it still doesn't trump Kingda Ka as my favorite coaster. Top Thrill is considered to be Kingda Ka's littler brother (due to the similarities in the layout except for the difference in height and speed), so the comparison is often made. I think that part of the reason is that Top Thrill Dragster utilizes lapbars, while Kingda Ka features over-the-shoulder restraints. The gives riders more freedom, but it comes with a cost . . . I like to ride with my arms up, and riding arms up, only locked in with a small lapbar tends to throw you around painfully due to the extreme geforces. Also, the theme of Top Thrill Dragster is shallow compared to Kingda Ka. Kingda Ka's theme provides something more to the experience of a great coaster. Don't get me wrong, Top Thill is still a great coaster - many prefer it to Kingda Ka, but in my eyes Top Thrill not quite as good as Kingda Ka.
Before this visit, the only other time I have ridden Gatekeeper was on opening day 2013, where I ranked it in my top ten coasters list. I have come to a conclusion that the opening-day excitement made my reception of Gatekeeper higher than it should be. The ride was great, with thrilling twists and turns, but it just doesn't suffice a top ten coaster.
Overall, it was a great visit to Cedar Point. Cedar Point has a great lineup of rides, with Millennium Force being my favorite of them all. Millennium Force came in at spot nine, and I had a great time riding it. I sure hope to find myself at this spectacular park soon!
Coasters are my passion. It's what I do, it's who I am.
